I’ve been kicking around the idea of writing and illustrating a childrens book for years so I’m always interested in learning more about self-publishing… ran across an article in the Wall Street Journal yesterday that introduced me to Author Solutions Inc. Evidentially, Author Solutions is acquiring rival Trafford. Here are a few key highlights from the article:
- In 2007 411,000 new books were published with ISBN numbers
- Since 1995 Trafford has published 20,000 titles, from 15,000 authors
I wonder if book publishing will go the way of the record label (and the dinosaur) - extinction!? Entire article can be found here: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123895881091590451.html
DIY sites to look it if you are thinking about self-publishing:
- Trafford: www.trafford.com
- Author Solutions Inc.: www.authorsolutions.com
- LuLu: www.lulu.com - their site looks super user-friendly though I’ve never used it myself…
- CafePress: www.cafepress.com - not sure if you can get an ISBN number here?
- Outskirts Press: www.outskirtspress.com - site design is a little cheesey!
